AMMO BOX INSTALLATION

Step 1: Size up the position of the box to the position you want it to be mounted on the car.
[Hint: If you have a late model car and are adding a box to the front, like in the above picture,
the hole left by removing the amber reflector is a good placement for the upper right hole.
Use a bolt to temporarily hold the corner of the plate while marking the other holes.]
Use the plate as a template to mark and center-punch the mounting holes. A 1/8 in. pilot hole
is recommended before drilling to 5/16. De-burr the holes and apply some touch up paint to
prevent rust.

Step 2: Using the plate as a template, mark and center-punch
the back of the box.
Note the position of the lid when closed and the final height
of the box in relation to the car top height. Hinges front or rear?
Extra time and thought can pay off here.
Some boxes have deep
flanged lids

that may not close if the spacers are too high.

Step 3: Pilot drill the holes and final them to 5/16 and de-burr.
Insert the plate, line up the holes and insert the washers and
bolts. Then thread on the brass spacers. Just hand tight.
Add the rubber washer to the bolt ends.
Also note the handles on the boxes have been removed.
This keeps the from bouncing around and rusting up the box.
[advise from another "Steeds" member.]

Step-4: Attach the box assembly to the holes in the
car.

Put in the fender washers and spin on the nuts hand tight.
Using two 7/16 [11mm] wrenches, tighten the nuts up, a
turn or two at a time on each one to avoid distorting the
sheet metal.
Attach the lid...Done Deal.
To stay legal, drill and reattach that amber reflector to the box.
Or not.
